FLAG FOOTBALL UPDATE JULY 23, 2005

WEATHER: It was warm (80) but about 20 degrees cooler than inland, so all in all not bad. But for the fans, it was somewhat frosty (see pic below)

A great turnout for a rare July game but a somewhat shorter writeup just because it’s too damn hot to be typing!

HIGHLIGHTS

ON THE REBOUND: We had three interceptions occur on plays where the ball ricocheted between a couple of people. QBDavid (playing safety) snagged one that bounced off of a receiver’s hands, into his own, back out before he grabbed it.

Kevin got one that bounced off of a receiver, then a linebacker before he got it.

I got one (who knew it had to be a weird play if I get a pick) that went off of 3 people’s hands before it nicely nestled into mine. This upset Brent, which made me even more amused.

GOOD HANDS PEOPLE: We had some really nice grabs and want to single out a few people. Peter had several nice grabs, including one that saw him racing down the sidelines on a long gain. Matthew went up high a few times for some nice catches. Ramsay, as always, is a great target to throw to. Mike and Eric were aces on several, while John had two near-misses (one on the sideline where he was slightly out of bounds and the other on what turned to be a wacky interception). The best of the day was new guy Craig, who went up high in the end zone for a 2-point conversion.

NOTABLE: Great pass rushing by Craig, Kevin and Drew. … David did a good job at QB avoiding the rush and making plays. … Brian was amusing sneaking a between-series cigarette, then picking off a pass and racing the length of the field … for naught, as it turned out, since the QB was already ruled down. … Team Dark pulled a nifty reverse, backwards pass that broke down on the forward pass part of it.

NEXT: We will be back in the fall and play through early/mid-May, so there is plenty of football ahead! Have a great rest of your summer.
